Bandu Manamperi
Performance & Visual Artist
Pioneering Performance Art in Sri Lanka
Bandu Manamperi is a performance/visual artist and sculptor from Sri Lanka. His works explore themes of violence, identity, culture, and transformation through a unique visual language that combines dramatic physical expression with conceptual depth.
As a pioneer of performance art in Sri Lanka, Manamperi began his practice in the 1990s, using his body as a medium to address social and political issues. His education at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, University of Kelaniya, provided the foundation for his multidisciplinary approach.
Manamperi's performances often involve ritualistic elements, body transformation, and interactions with symbolic materials that reflect Sri Lankan cultural contexts while addressing universal human experiences. His visual art and sculptural works extend these explorations through different material forms.
With exhibitions and performances across Asia, Europe, and North America, Manamperi has established himself as an important voice in contemporary art. His work continues to challenge viewers to reconsider perceptions of identity, cultural memory, and embodied experience.
